Report from Paris

It’s been a week since the fair visit in Paris. The impressions have settled and I can chisel out the ones that will last. The fair (Maison & Objet) is all praise, but it’s still so inspiring to walk around the streets of Paris. There’s always something that pops up and gives you ideas. There’s something special about this city, you want to stay. Simply because the city’s atmosphere is uplifting and revitalizing.

I tried to be diligent with the camera but it didn’t work out. It’s easy to forget it when you’re in the middle of everything. My friend was even more diligent so I’ve had to borrow some pictures from her. I’ll start with pictures from the fair.

At Eichholtz you certainly didn’t find any shabby coffee tables with worn-out wooden planks. Wow, I’m getting tired of this trend, you see it everywhere and I’m sure it won’t be long before they’re thrown out. Really, who wants an old wreck in the living room? See my previous blog about this phenomenon here:  the shabby tables .

I was so disappointed with one of my other favorites, Flamant. They have clearly deviated from their classic style and felt compelled to follow the trend. I didn’t take any photos in their booth, the picture below is from their website.

Flamant’s new style.

Here I am, looking satisfied. Without looking closer, I threw myself into the booth that at first glance looked stylish. Upon closer inspection, I realized that the booth had a slightly kitschy and ostentatious touch that you see in the Arabic booths.

I had a scheduled meeting with Alma House supplier from Milan. The nice Dario showed his new collection of bed linen. The unique thing about this company is that production takes place in Italy to maintain the best possible quality. Most now produce in China. Now come pictures from the walks in Paris.

Merci is one of the most popular interior design stores in Paris. It was a positive surprise. Simple arrangements with finesse and innovation. There are many details that are a bit in the direction of “you take what you have”.

A sweet mix of different plants found in nature and the garden.

It’s a shame there’s no interior design department like in London. We had to settle for looking at the beautiful but outrageously expensive clothes. Here I am resting on a sofa after all the walking.

We also had time for a bit of culture. I was fascinated by this statue created during the Middle Ages. It depicts Adam taking out the rib that later turns into Eve. How strange is that……

I’ll end with a photo of some nice bed linen in a shop window. Black and white is my melody.
