Furniture from another world

If you are looking for something different in terms of furniture, you have to look outside the country’s borders or be creative and find furniture that you can paint or reupholster. On a walk in the Saint-Germain area of Paris a few years ago, I came across the company Moissonier, which has taken advantage of older furniture designs and created a completely unique expression. I dropped my jaw when I saw their pieces, so delicious, so exciting, so “over the top” – and absolutely, absolutely wonderful! It’s about furniture with color and sometimes with a lot of whimsy in the form of various ornaments. Here is a selection, what do you think?

Magnificent chests of drawers are Moissonier’s main characteristics, painted in fun colors. Close-up of a more soberly colored chest of drawers.

All chests of drawers are painted by hand and get a “scrubbing” afterwards to make them look old and used. Empire sofas with velvet cushions and pillows in strong, vibrant colors. Now for their cool tables. Here one in grey-beige with a few various frilly ornaments. Black and gold. Even though the furniture is based on an old French furniture tradition, in Moissoniers’s style it can still be given a modern expression in some way. Tables and chairs set up at a trade fair. Imaginative dining room furniture. How much more fun it is with slightly odd chairs.   Beautiful chairs named Teatime.
