Mirror, mirror on the wall there…

In my last post I mentioned the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles where a work of art had been placed in the middle of the hall. I thought it was a bit of a shame, the hall doesn’t need any added art as it is a work of art in itself and should be enjoyed “purely”. It was the Sun King Louis XIV who saw to the creation of this masterpiece.

You can understand that he was pleased when he received his guests in the mighty hall that was built to further demonstrate the king’s power and wealth. It takes your breath away even today. It was completely new for its time to use mirrors to enhance space and light, but this can of course also be transferred to today’s home decor.

Depending on what you want to achieve, mirrors can be used in different ways. Large mirrors can create the illusion of a window and enlarge the space, and a smaller mirror can add character to the interior.

Large mirror leaning against a wall, reflects light and is decorative.

A fancy antique mirror in a bedroom makes a statement.

A large mirror in an already large bathroom creates even more space and light.

A living room where mirrors form the theme. The mirror-clad folding walls open out to form an entire mirror wall.

This is about using mirrors for decorative purposes.
