Van the man is my god in the world of music. I’ve felt compelled to make my music choices invisible on Spotify so my friends can’t see how much I play Van.
It’s not so easy to get a feel for this man. He rarely gives any interviews where he shows off his personality and he is generally perceived as a real nerd. So I simply have to start from what I think he would like and what you can interpret into his music lyrics. I think his lyrics are poetic and you can sense a romantic even though he has rarely written pure love songs. He tours tirelessly despite having reached the respectable age of 67 and this can only be interpreted as his love for music being very great.
I imagine him living in a Victorian house on the outskirts of his hometown of Belfast. I imagine his style as traditional with a certain modernist touch to show that he is living with the times.
