About 15 years ago, the Gustavian style was very popular. I think it was largely due to Lars Sjöberg and his book “The Swedish Room” which was published in 1994. Lars Sjöberg is an art historian and has a great love for the 18th century. He has made it his life’s work to take care of old houses and furniture from the era. His book received great attention abroad and many foreign interior designers came here to study and be inspired by the style. And many fell head over heels, one of the most famous being Tricia Guild (Designers Guild) who named several of her fabric collections after Swedish castles and farms.
It is easy to understand the success of the style, Gustavian environments are light and airy and have a simplicity in a stylish way. This Swedish cultural heritage is something we should be proud of and embrace. Just look here….
