Fabric for a king and for a cozy sofa

Velvet has a solid history and already in the 13th century the Italians began to weave the exclusive fabric. Of course it became an expensive story so only the nobility could afford it. It naturally became fashionable to create advanced creations. Velvet was used for royal crowns, for example.

Above is a beautiful midnight blue velvet dress and a pair of boys’ boots from the Livrustkammaren collections.

There is talk now that velvet has had a “revival” in fashion. It was featured heavily in the fall 2015 shows.

Nowadays, velvet is of course used in fashion, but even more so in interior design. Lately, we have seen that velvet has become increasingly popular in the interior design world. Perhaps it is a reaction to the troubled world around us. We want it to be cozy, warm and cosy. For this purpose, velvet is the ultimate interior design fabric.

As an interior fabric, it is most often found on sofas, headboards, curtains and of course pillows. Here are pictures of stylish sofas in different colors.

Above is a sofa from Moissonier that I have blogged about before, see here: http://www.moissonnier.com/

As you can see, there’s never a wrong choice with a velvet sofa, it stays in style and never goes out of style.

Now it’s headboards.

Oops, this one is oversized but the color is nice.

And now on to curtains.

Light blue.

Light greige.

Gray.

Light green or dark aqua. It’s hard to define the color but it’s beautiful and look at the nice drape and shine of the fabric.

And here you see me with my butt in the air. I’m trying to get a good pleat for the photo shoot of Alma House’s new collection of velvet fabrics. In the picture gray and misty pink.
