Extravaganza

As a counterbalance to the current trend in Swedish interior design, I want to make a post about the opposite, the extravagant or the maximalist if you will.

If you generalize, you can say that there are two trends in Swedish interior design at the moment. One is shabby chic and it has a large following. You could almost call it the folk style.

Then there is another style, a bit more snobbish, know-it-all group. Here, white and black are the rules. For both directions, but especially for the “black and white”, simplicity, spartan taste and minimalism apply. If you want to be a bit mean, you can say that it is enough to put a black bicycle against a white wall for the black and white to spin.

In the Anglo-Saxon countries, for example, the framework is much wider. Americans have no restrictions; they like to overdecorate and think it looks expensive, but instead it often ends up being quite tasteless.

I personally think that you should dare more, it will be so boring and poor otherwise. Here are some pictures where you have pushed the boundaries and gone all out. Judge for yourself, where is the line for the tasteless…?
