The velvet sofa is both trendy and timeless

Finally I say. I have long wished that the velvet sofa would come back into fashion. There has been a lot of whining from me in previous blog posts about the prevailing dull gray sofas in cotton-like fabric. Well, they are still popular but on their way out in the near future, I think and hope. I can hardly imagine anything more boring, but I certainly buy that they are practical, that is, dirt-resistant. And isn’t it typically Swedish that practicality comes before beauty?

But now I think I’m craving soft and smooth velvet sofas in both flashy and discreet colors. Here we go!

A pink little caramel. Pink is still trendy, I wonder how long.

A dark red in Chesterfield style.

A more discreet color scheme here too Chesterfield. There is a lot of Chesterfield internationally right now. Maybe that trend will eventually reach us too.

Red velvet sofa in a traditional style. Ralph Lauren of course.

A red but modern piece. I have to admit that I have a weakness for red velvet sofas.

Purple is a bold choice but it sure is delicious.

Black is not the obvious choice, but often the unexpected is the best. The image above is from Ralph Lauren. Gold as an accent color to black is just so right.

Slightly prejudiced as I am, I think the Swede would choose a gray velvet sofa.

And then we come to the color that has dominated in recent years, green has been and still is the hottest color on velvet sofas. It has appealed to me because before the turn of the millennium I bought a green velvet sofa from the brand Ihreborn. It is now in the possession of my ex-husband and is still going strong. Of course it has been worn a little in almost 20 years but I call that patina and that is part of it. The model is no longer in production but with its classic look it will last for many more years.

This is what the “Millennium Sofa” looks like. A classic Howard model can never go wrong.

If you look at foreign interior design magazines, it seems that dark blue is next.

Two blue sofas and this one above is from Ikea (picture borrowed from Leva &Bo) who usually knows which way the wind blows. The model above is called Norsborg.

Another one from Ikea. This Stockholm model is of slightly higher quality.

The sofa above is almost blue-black. Stylish!

If you are going to invest in a velvet sofa, I would recommend that you invest in the most common “gemstone colors”. Partly because they look incredibly beautiful in velvet and because they probably last and you don’t get tired of them in the first place. So, ruby (red), sapphire (blue) emerald (green). Rounding off with some pictures with a slightly more different color choice.
