One of my absolute favorites among Christmas songs is Blue Christmas by Elvis Presley. It is a rather sad song. Elvis sings that it will be a “Blue” Christmas (blue = gloomy) without his beloved and how lonely he feels. It doesn’t matter that it is a sad theme, the song is beautiful. Inspired by this tear-jerking song, I thought I would test what it would be like if you tried to create a Christmas atmosphere in a blue environment. It is not exactly easy. Blue is a cold color and it is the exact opposite of what is meant by Christmas cozy.

However, I have some experience of trying to create a warm Christmas atmosphere in a blue and white environment. We celebrate Christmas at the country house where the interior is in light blue and white with a little vanilla yellow mixed in. It has been a bit of a challenge. But with small means it is possible to achieve a relatively warm atmosphere and that by adding a little red here and there.
First I’ll test only blue.

A lavishly decorated tree with only blue and silver feels, well, pretty pointless from a Christmassy perspective.

This mini tree in an ice bucket is certainly beautiful but not very Christmassy.

Christmas table setting in blue with green vegetation, nice but it doesn’t raise the Christmas spirit.

Nice, but no sense of Christmas atmosphere from my side anyway.

Dark blue walls and a fireplace, now it’s starting to look like something. A darker blue tone gives a more cozy feeling and of course a crackling fire does its job.

A couple of pictures with a dark blue theme. It makes a great background for Christmas coziness. With some red details it could take it to another level.

Wreaths with red ribbons instantly bring a Christmas feel to a white kitchen.

Here, a black-painted sideboard has been decorated with blue porcelain and a few splashes of red by placing red roses here and there.

Such a nice dining area. A real dream.

A magnificent urn with amaryllis and greenery, fits anywhere and is guaranteed to give you a Christmas feeling.

This is my modest contribution. Last weekend we decorated the country house and the candlesticks got red ribbons. For the Christmas holidays it will be complemented with a nice bouquet in red.

Even in the country kitchen we decorate sparingly. A red ribbon on the candlestick and some juniper in a vase with red berries. That’s all we need.

Wishing you a cozy Christmas with this atmospheric image.
And now comes the source of inspiration itself. Elvis with Blue Christmas. I first choose the legendary Comeback 68´ – a live version in unplugged style. This concert was the best Elvis ever did, according to me and many others. Completely dressed in black leather, and if I dare say so, as sexy as can be……
